Thanks to her amazing career as an musician through countries like France, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, The Check Republic, USA and Colombia, Irene Gómez represents a true standpoint in the music and in the guitar world.

She started her music guitar studies at a very early age at the “Conservatorio de Música de la Universidad Nacional “(National University Musical Conservatory) with the master Gentil Montaña.

She became the first guitarist to graduate Suma Cum Laude from the National University of Colombia under master Ramiro Isaza´s guidance (R.I.P) and in France she won the Golden Medal in Guitar in an unanimous fashion and Golden Medal in Chamber Music of the "Claude Debussy" Conservatorium at Saint Germain in Laye, France, where she studied with the Spanish master Javier Quevedo. She also obtained the First Prize of Improvement towards Perfection.

In France she additionally, studied with the master Alberto Ponce at École Normale de Musique and with the Uruguayan master Betho Davezak at the Paris Conservatory XV.

She has taken part in incidental music, namely in the French film "L'homme sur le quais". Her CD "Guitarra para un atardecer" (Guitar for a Suncast) which was released in 2001 was praised by the specialized critique and general audience.

As a researcher Irene Gómez obtained the Mention "Trés Bien" for her work "Manuel María Ponce: Une Vie Une Oeuvre" conferred by the Saint Germain Conservatory at Laye in France and during the First Festival of Arts and Letters at Eastfield College in Dallas, Texas she received a Special Award for her participation as a concert player and a conference speaker, on the composers Agustín Barrios and H. Villalobos.

Irene Gómez has also undertaken a research work that has been exposed during conferences at different guitar related events.

She has been the National University Symphonic Orchestra Music Department and Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra soloist .

Since her return to Colombia in 1998, Irene Gómez has been dedicated to promoting a guitarist culture by joining various university institutions.

Right now, Irene Gómez is a professor at the National University of Colombia, at the “Academia Superior de Artes de Bogotá “(Superior Academy of Arts of Bogotá) and at the School of Music of the “Juan N. Corpas” University. She is as well the artistic director at a foundation named alter her.
